Electric Detection System (EDS)® FAQ
1. How do I know if my EDS installation is in accordance with AS3016?
The energizer components, design and operation comply with Australian
Standard AS3129. The system installation criteria are regulated by Australian
Standard AS3016. All installations must comply with Australian Security Fencing
's own code of practice, which exceeds the current existing Australian Standards.
2. Is the Electronic Detection System system safe?
Yes the system in guaranteed safe. The
energiser components, design and operation comply with Australian Standard AS3129.
The system installation criteria are regulated by Australian Standard AS3016.
All installations must comply with Australian Security Fencing 's own code of
practice, which exceeds the current existing Australian Standards.
3. What
happens if a child or eldery person comes into contact with the EDS?
In
accordance with the Australian Security Fencing Code of Practice and Minimum
Quality Standards, all Security Fencing systems are designed and installed
to minimize the risk of accidental contact. The impulses are regulated safe
for the entire population, in accordance with AS3129.
4. Is the Electronic Detection System system legal?
Yes the Security Fencing system is legal because
the system design, components and installation comply with the requirements of
AS3129 & AS3016. In addition because the system is only available from Authorized
Dealers, who exercise Duty of Care when considering the design, installation
and maintenance of EDS, in accordance with Australian Security Fencing's Code
of Practice and Minimum Quality Standards.
5. What maintenance is required?
Australian
Security Fencing recommend three routine maintenance inspections per year to ensure
optimum system performance and reliability.
6. Is the Security Fencing system prone to false
alarms due to changes in the weather, heavy rain, fog, snow, high winds, falling
leaves, wet paper bags, wild animals etc?
No, unlike other perimeter systems the
EDS technology and signal processing ignores these forms of interference.
7.
Why does the system not generate an alarm if an animal or human touches the EDS?
Anyone who touches the EDS when the system is alarmed is repelled by a short,
sharp painful, but regulated safe electric shock. Only if someone attacks, tries
to climb through or tampers with the EDS , are alarms generated.
8. What
about false alarms?
False alarms are virtually unheard of, because of
the system quality and proven design. Unique patented electronics and system components.
Designed, installed and maintained by trained Authorized Dealers, Australian Security
Fencing & Code of Practice, Minimum Quality Standards, system inspection and Certification
procedures.
9. What happens if the mains fail?
In the event of
a mains failure rechargeable batteries power the system for a minimum of 4 hours.
If a longer period is required the size of the standby power supplies can be increased.
10. What are the running costs of a typical EDS?
A standard EDS
consumes less than 40 watts fully armed. This is comparable with a small light
bulb.
11. What do the police think about the Electronic Detection System?
Australian Security Fencing have held discussions with Policing Departments
and Crime Prevention Officers throughout the world. Many of the EDS installations
are as a direct result of Police referral.
12. Do insurers accept or specify
the EDS?
Yes, most major insurance companies accept the installation of
the EDS and some are now specifying EDS for the protection of appropriate sites.
As a direct result of EDS stopping crime and losses on various sites, some site
owners have been able to obtain insurance on previously uninsurable or uneconomic
