What Makes a Good Fencing Contractor?

Fencing contractors can be a dime a dozen. However, finding a good one can be the difference between a fence that stands the test of time, and one that falls down a few months down the road from the install date. There are some ways to ensure you get a good contractor and avoid the pitfalls of having a fence installed by a sub-par installer.

The old saying you get what you pay for can go a long way in terms of any contractor. That doesn’t automatically mean that the highest price quote you get is from the best contractor. It simply means that many contractors will do the work for a much-reduced price because they won’t be around when the shoddy work reveals itself.

1.Do your homework.

If you can’t find a recommended contractor, or if you cannot find anything about them on Google, or Facebook or other sites, it may not be the best idea to go with them as a fencing contractor. Granted, they might be excellent and just starting out, but do you really want to take a chance on what can potentially be thousands of dollars of investment into your home or business.

2.Check out their reviews.

It is one thing for someone to say they are an excellent contractor, it is another thing for others to speak for their prior work. Lots of positive reviews is a good sign.

3.Payment arrangement

If you’re not comfortable with their payment arrangements, by all means, question it. A contractor that requires a large amount of money upfront and a quick decision can be a warning sign. Normal contractors have no issue with giving you time to decide what product you want, or when you want it installed. Along those same lines is a contractor who makes you choose based solely on pictures of past work completed. A good fencing contractor will have the materials to show you so you can get an actual feel for them, their textures and how they may look on your property.

4.Rules, Regulations, and Restrictions

A good contractor will also know the rules, regulations, and restrictions. If they aren’t aware of what sort of limitations are allowed for your fencing, they may not be the best contractor to use. Having one that understands the full regulations for your area will ensure you aren’t wasting your money on a fence that may need to be taken down due to regulatory issues.
