THE PROJECT
The manufacture and supply of security fencing for 350 sub stations in rural and regional NSW. Country Energy is undertaking perimeter fencing as part of its commitment to the communities where its sub stations are based, to ensure the continued safety and protection of residents, and the uninterrupted operational effectiveness of the sub stations.

THE CHALLENGE
The chosen fencing product had to be secure, tough and durable. It had to be difficult to climb, and to penetrate with normal cutting tools, reducing the opportunity for vandalism. As well as protecting the asset, Country Energy also needed a barrier that would ensure the protection of the community. The fence needed to be visually appealing and blend in with the natural environment. With all of the sub stations located in inland and coastal areas of NSW, the fence had to withstand intense inland heat and the corrosion inherent in coastal areas. Ensuring ease of erection was also critical with varying fencing contractors used in the different regions.

THE SOLUTION
Securemax® fencing was the product of choice for the project. Manufactured and distributed by Australian Security Fencing (ASF), the European designed and Australian made product has a particularly small aperture (9mm x 71mm) that makes it difficult to grip and therefore climb.
According to ASF Product Manager, David Odell, Securemax® is not only intruder resistant, but it’s also long lasting.
Securemax® is manufactured from Australian made OneSteel 4mm coated Zalcote® wire. The zinc aluminium alloy coatings offer excellence protection, combining the benefits of the active cathodic protection of zinc with the passive protection of aluminium. The result is a coating that offers two to four times greater protection than hot-dipped galvanised wire.
Zalcote® has been specifically designed for high security welded meshes with the wires strong tensile properties increasing the resistance against penetration.
Guaranteeing it meets the highest standards of perimeter security, Securemax® has been tested to SCEE endorsement (eA 842740), an Australian accepted ASIO certification. According to David, Securemax® also provides a high degree of visibility through the mesh which minimises the visual impact.
Securemax® is available in any colour and recognises the importance of versatile fencing that doesn’t intrude on the surrounding environment. Country Energy wanted a fence that would provide maximum protection, while being long lasting and environmentally responsible, Securemax® answered all those requirements.

THE VERDICT
There have been no vandalism incidents to the upgraded sites, with the product proving its effectiveness against intruders. Its clean, ‘see through’ appearance has also been acknowledged as a benefit by Country Energy.
